Volunteering

This came as more of a surprise to me than anyone else – I love working with kids.

Along with school and work, I volunteered with organizations like Saturday Art Class and Claylab Education Foundation. While I was the “mentor”, these kids’ unbridled creative confidence and fresh outlook ended up teaching me more than I could ever do for them. Empowerment through education remains a topic that I am deeply passionate about.

I inherited the art gene from my mother (who, by the way, is a far more prolific artist than I could ever dream of being). But being “naturally talented” also led me to struggle with perfectionism. Because of this, my relationship with art has been complicated and I am actively learning to enjoy the journey without losing myself in stressing about the outcome.

The year in lockdown forced me to reconnect with things that gave me joy, one of which was the Harry Potter series. In a serendipitous encounter (or, more realistically, matched by the algorithm overlords), I came across MuggleNet’s posting for a creative editorialist. I was a content writer with MuggleNet for over a year and had the time of my life living in the world of Potter. While I had to leave this engagement due to workload imbalances, I’d love to share some of my pieces that are still up on the site!
